BBC pundit predicts Tottenham v Everton outcome, comments on Allardyce’s first signing

Tottenham Hotspur take on Everton in the Premier League this evening.

Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur will beat Everton 2-0 at Wembley Stadium this evening.

Tottenham head into the game having dropped just two points in their last four Premier League games, with a 1-1 draw win their last league game against West Ham United halting their winning run.

With just one defeat in the last eight Premier League games, Tottenham have been impressive of late, and beat AFC Wimbledon 3-0 in the FA Cup last weekend.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men remain some way behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, but a win over Everton this evening will strengthen their push for a Champions League spot.

Everton head to Wembley having been beaten 2-1 by Liverpool in the FA Cup last weekend, and that came following a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth and 2-0 loss at Manchester United.

The Toffees started well under Sam Allardyce but have now lost three in a row in all competitions, and will be hoping to pick up points in North London to arrest their slide.

However, pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he expects to see Tottenham pick up a victory, backing them to beat Everton 2-0 this evening.

Lawrenson thinks new Everton signing Cenk Tosun will take time to settle in the Premier League, and whilst Allardyce will look to frustrate Spurs, he is backing Pochettino’s men to come out on top.

“Everton have now lost three games in a row following their FA Cup defeat by Liverpool – and I think Tottenham might make it four,” said Lawrenson. “We are likely to see the Toffees’ new signing Cenk Tosun at some point – even if boss Sam Allardyce doesn’t start with him up front – but it will take him some time to adjust to the pace of the Premier League.”

“Tottenham are just starting to find their stride a little bit – their only defeat in their past eight league games was against Manchester City and the only other game where they have dropped points in that run was against West Ham. Allardyce will try to contain Spurs and keep them out, but I don’t think he will manage it,” he added.
