Leeds United won against Cambridge United in the FA Cup on Monday.

Noel Whelan has suggested to BBC Sport (22:04) that he was impressed with the performance of Matt Grimes for Leeds United against Cambridge United on Monday evening.

Grimes, who joined Leeds on a season-long loan deal from Premier League outfit Swansea City in the summer transfer window, featured in the FA Cup third-round tie against Cambridge away from home.

The 21-year-old started the match at the Cambs Glass Stadium and played for the entire 90 minutes, as the Whites staged a 2-1 comeback victory.

Shaun Derry’s side took the lead in the 25th minute when Uche Ikpeazu found the target.

Stuart Dallas restored parity for Leeds 11 minutes into the second half, and Alex Mowatt doubled the advantage on 63 minutes.

Former Leeds striker Whelan was following the match, and he was impressed with the performance of Mowatt.

The Englishman, though, was not too impressed with the display of Leeds goalkeeper Marco Silvestri.

“Silvestri flapped a little tonight, didn’t command his area as well as we know he can – he didn’t deal with things properly and didn’t get his hands around stuff as he usually does,” Whelan told BBC Sport (22:04). “Old habits crept back in. He wasn’t the only one not at the races, though.

“I thought Grimes did better, mind – he has more aggression and quality about him now and tried to make things happen. That was a plus for him.”

Over the course of the 90 minutes at the Cambs Glass Stadium, hosts Cambridge had 37% of the possession, took 11 shots of which four were on target, and earned seven corners, according to BBC Sport.

Visitors Leeds had 63% of the possession, took 12 shots of which five were on target, and earned four corners, according to BBC Sport.
