What a horrific start for Aston Villa this afternoon.
Unai Emery’s side were a goal down at Brighton & Hove Albion within 60 seconds of kickoff today.
Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz was robbed in possession and Alexis Mac Allister wound up opening the scoring almost immediately.
And Steve Sidwell because the Brazilian midfielder is mostly culpable for the concession.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live [13/11, 2:02 pm]: “They were under no pressure, Martinez has played the ball into Douglas Luiz and he was a bit flat footed. Douglas Luiz wasn’t on his toes. He didn’t look like he wanted the ball.”
During Emery’s time at Arsenal, the Gunners were famous for being relatively easy to score against.
However, they also scored a lot of goals and Danny Ings got Aston Villa back on level terms after only 20 minutes by slotting a penalty beyond the Seagulls’ goalkeeper.
It was partially on Luiz for not being alert but, by the same token, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez probably should’ve realised that and refrained from passing to him.
Honestly, there is a pair of them in it and focusing on Luiz is very generous to Martinez who, actually, was just as complicit for the concession.
It ended 1-1 at the break and hopefully for the Villans they can continue to improve after the break.
