Tottenham Hotspur and Everton faced each other in the Premier League at the weekend.

Ross Barkley celebrates scoring the third goal for Everton

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas has explained to BBC Sport what Ross Barkley needs to learn from Dele Alli.

Barkley is one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League and is a key player for Everton.

The 23-year-old England international has been in good form for the Toffees in recent weeks.

Alli is one of the best young midfielders in entire Europe and has been in stunning form for Tottenham so far this campaign.

The 20-year-old England international has scored 13 goals and created 33 chances in 26 Premier League matches for Spurs so far this season.

Barkley and Alli faced each other at the weekend during the Premier League game between Tottenham and Everton at White Hart Lane.

Former Spurs midfielder Jenas was following the match on Sunday afternoon, and he has outlined what Barkley needs to learn from Alli.

“If there is an element of his game that I think Barkley could take from Alli, it is that he needs to keep the ball moving forwards when he picks it up in the opposition half,” Jenas told BBC Sport. “Too many times, his first touch seems to take him back into midfield instead.”

Tottenham are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 56 points from 27 matches, while Everton currently find themselves seventh in the standings with 44 points from 27 games.
