Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur will beat Stoke City 2-0 at Wembley Stadium this afternoon.

Spurs have been in torrid Premier League form of late, picking up just two points in their last four league outings since the international break, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men only picking up a 1-1 draw at Watford last weekend.

After beating APOEL Nicosia 3-0 in the Champions League in midweek, it’s back to Premier League action for Spurs this afternoon, and they desperately need a win.

Spurs have slipped a whopping 18 points behind league leaders Manchester City, and with many believing that Tottenham are already out of the title race, a win is vital this afternoon.

Their opponents are Mark Hughes’ Stoke City, who came from a goal down to beat Swansea City 2-1 at the bet365 Stadium last weekend, snapping a run of just two points in four games.

The Potters sit six points clear of the relegation zone, but the pressure remains on manager Hughes, and the Welshman will be looking to become the latest manager to frustrate Spurs at Wembley Stadium.

Football pundit Mark Lawrenson looks on before the npower Championship game between Cardiff City and Queens Park Rangers at Cardiff City Stadium on April 23, 2011 in Cardiff, Wales.

However, pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Tottenham can turn their form around at any time, and is backing them to claim a 2-0 win over the Potters this afternoon.

“Stoke came from 1-0 down against Swansea to get a much-needed win, and stop their slide a little bit,” said Lawrenson. “Tottenham’s form in the Champions League has been impressive and although they have dropped some points in the Premier League recently, I only see that as a blip – nothing more.”

“I’ve heard a few theories about why Spurs have been stuttering but I think it is fair to say that some of their players just have not reached the heights they did last season. We have seen flashes from them of course, because they are outstanding players, but they are just not in form at the moment. That happens, and it can change very quickly,” he added.
