Noel Whelan has told BBC Sport that the Leeds United youngsters should be looking at Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback and learn a thing or two.

Whelan made the comment during the Championship game between Leeds and Newcastle United at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

Colback started the match for the Magpies and played for 83 minutes, as Rafael Benitez’s side registered a 2-0 victory.

Former Leeds striker Whelan was following the game, and he was impressed with the performance of the 27-year-old midfielder in the opening 30 minutes of the encounter.

“Colback’s doing a great job of sitting in front of Chris Wood and just lapping up any loose balls,” Colback told BBC Sport.

“I think our younger lads will be looking at this and seeing the movements, the runs – they’ll be learning a lot.”
