Mark Lawrenson believes West Ham United will lose 2-1 at Southampton tonight.
Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Southampton will beat West Ham United 2-1 at St. Mary’s Stadium this evening.
Southampton had endured a poor run of just one win in six games, but they have recently shot up the Premier League table with a string of fine results.
Wins over Watford, West Bromwich Albion and Manchester United were followed up by a battling 0-0 draw at Arsenal in midweek, with goalkeeper Fraser Forster again starring.
The shot stopper had missed the entire season, but his return has coincided with Southampton’s great run of form, as he has kept a clean sheet in every game of Southampton’s four-game unbeaten run.
Now, the Saints take on Slaven Bilic’s West Ham United in the Premier League this evening, who have also been in great form recently.
The Hammers, who currently sit five points above Southampton, have won four of their last six games, and beat Aston Villa 2-0 at home in midweek.
West Ham beat Southampton 2-1 at Upton Park over Christmas, and will be looking for a repeat performance – but pundit Mark Lawrenson, who has been criticised recently for regularly picking West Ham to lose, has told BBC Sport believes Southampton will win the game 2-1 this evening.
“West Ham’s good form has taken them into sixth with a five-point cushion over Southampton, who are one place below them,” said Lawrenson. “Saints are also on an impressive run, including their excellent point at Arsenal on Tuesday. So I am going to go for Ronald Koeman’s side to edge this one, although it will be close,” he added.
