Mark Lawrenson is predicting a 1-1 draw between Everton and Manchester United this afternoon.

Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Everton will draw 1-1 with Manchester United at Goodison Park this afternoon.

Everton head into the game having endured a miserable run of recent form, with last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Southampton meaning it’s now just one win in the last eight Premier League games for Ronald Koeman’s men.

After such a disappointing end to Roberto Martinez’s reign at Goodison Park, it was always going to take time for Koeman to completely turn things around at Everton, but the fact that they’re struggling after such an impressive start has shocked many.

Today, Koeman’s men take on Manchester United, who haven’t been in top form of late either. Whilst they beat West Ham United 4-1 in the EFL Cup in midweek, they’ve won just one of their last seven Premier League games.

Jose Mourinho’s men have only lost once in that run as well though, meaning they’ve had too many draws, and they sit one point above Everton but already ten points off the Champions League places.

Both managers need a win after recent slumps in the league, and pundit Mark Lawrenson has spoken to BBC Sport ahead of the game, and is predicting a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Lawrenson thinks that Koeman has a bigger job on his hands at Everton than the Dutchman first thought, and predicted major changes at the club during the January transfer window.

The former Liverpool defender added that he thinks Mourinho is trying to win the EFL Cup as they can’t win the Premier League, and he’ll need silverware if United don’t even qualify for the Champions League.

“Goals have become difficult for Everton to come by – they have scored only six in their past eight Premier League games and could not recover after conceding so early against Southampton in their last game,” said Lawrenson. “They made a strong start to the season but Toffees manager Ronald Koeman has a bigger job on his hands than he probably imagined and I can see him changing things in the January transfer window.”

“Manchester United are doing well in the cup competitions but in the league they have been very unspectacular and I can see that continuing at the weekend. I don’t think United can win the league, which is one of the reasons why Jose Mourinho is trying to win the EFL Cup. Any sort of silverware would be good news for him and United this season, especially if they finish outside of the top four,” he added.
