Jermaine Beckford believes Son Heung-Min will have left Antonio Conte ‘fuming’ with his goal to open the scoring for Tottenham Hotspur against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 30-year-old broke the deadlock after only 10 minutes in north London on Saturday. He gave caretaker manager Cristian Stellini the perfect start as the winger cut inside from the left-hand channel and curled a delightful attempt home into the back of Jason Steele’s net.

Joel Veltman was helpless to stop Son from stuttering in off the flank as the South Korean tricked the Dutchman. While Steele was helpless to keep the 108-cap international’s effort out. Son could not have placed his shot better as it floated home into the top right corner.

Son breaks the deadlock for Tottenham vs Brighton in stunning style

The goal took Son to seven for the season in 28 Premier League appearances, alongside his four assists. It was also the forward’s third goal in his past seven appearances following the attacker’s goals in a 2-0 win over West Ham United and a 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

Son had only scored a hat-trick against Leicester City in September and a single effort away to Crystal Palace in January before hosting the Hammers in February. Yet the attacker has been a mainstay of the Spurs XI. He has started in 25 of the north London club’s 30 fixtures.

Son’s 100th Premier League goal leaves Beckford reflecting on Conte’s tenure

Son’s goal against Brighton was also the Tottenham forward’s 100th in the Premier League after 260 appearances. He moved to Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen back in August 2015 for £22m. While 25 of his 100 top-flight goals came in 52 appearances during Conte’s tenure.

Yet just six of Son’s 25 goals under Conte came during 26 of Tottenham’s games this term. So, the forward scoring in stunning style against Brighton on Saturday saw Beckford reflect of his efforts under the Italian. Spurs sacked Conte on March 26 after a poor run of form.

“It’s perfect from Son Heung-min,” Beckford said on the BBC’s Final Score. “What a finish. From a Brighton perspective, you’ve got to be a bit disappointed, showing Son onto his right foot.

“That’s something that Spurs have been desperate to see from Son this season. Antonio Conte must be fuming watching that.”
