Noel Whelan has suggested to BBC Sport (17:47) that Chris Wood can score 25 goals for Leeds United this season.

Whelan made the suggestion following Leeds’s 2-0 victory over Burton Albion at home on Saturday afternoon.

Wood scored the Whites’ opening goal of the Championship game at Elland Road in the 83rd minute from the penalty spot.

It was the New Zealand international striker’s seventh goal in the league this season, having featured in 14 Championship matches.

Former Leeds striker Whelan has suggested that the 24-year-old former West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City striker could score 25 goals this season.

“I think a player of his calibre and quality – there’s no reason he can’t hit 25 goals,” Whelan told BBC Sport about Wood (17:47).

“Wood’s getting in the right areas and he fended off three centre halves today – he did that so well.”

Whelan was probably suggesting 25 goals in all competitions, and that is a possibility for Wood, although 20 goals should be a more realistic target. Leeds are still in the EFL Cup, and then there is the FA Cup to come.

Wood is playing well at the moment and is scoring important goals, and Leeds fans should be pleased with the displays of the striker.

Garry Monk’s side are ninth in the Championship table at the moment with 23 points from 15 matches, just a point behind sixth-placed Bristol City.
