Pundit and Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd has told BBC Sport that he was unsure just why Joe Garner started for Rangers against Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
The two Old Firm rivals met at Hampden Park on Sunday for a place in the Scottish Cup final, with Rangers having some hope having gone five games without defeat under new manager Pedro Caixinha.
However, Celtic were attempting to one step closer to an historic treble, with Brendan Rodgers still yet to lose a domestic game this season.
The Bhoys, who had already clinched the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Premiership, exerted their dominance early on as Callum McGregor side-footed Celtic in front from Moussa Dembele’s smart lay-off.

Celtic sealed a 2-0 win and a passage into the Scottish Cup final when James Tavernier fouled Leigh Griffiths inside the penalty area, with Scott Sinclair stepping up to score from 12 yards.
Rangers were left to deal with a fourth defeat in five games against the Bhoys this season, with many players criticised for their lack of impact against Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
Kris Boyd, Kilmarnock
Striker Joe Garner was almost anonymous in the first half, and that led Caixinha to replace the centre forward with Joe Dodoo after just 45 minutes in search of a greater attacking output in the second half.
Now, pundit and Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd has told BBC Sport that he couldn’t really understand why Garner – who was Mark Warburton’s record signing at £1.5million (STV) last summer – even started the game given how little Rangers were able to attack.
“Not the game for him with Rangers having so little attacking play,” said Boyd. “The question could be ‘why did he start the game?'” he added, with Garner still yet to really live up to his price tag.
