Liverpool suffered a shock defeat to Swansea City last night at the Liberty Stadium.

The Reds were beaten 1-0 through a Alfie Mawson strike, despite dominating possession with 72 per cent.

Liverpool had 21 shots at goal, but only four landed on target.

Pundit John Hartson told BBC Sport that this poor execution was to blame for their frustrating result.

Hartson said: “Liverpool have shown effort, work-rate, and they’ve missed a couple of decent chances in the first half, but they’ve just not been inventive enough.

“Liverpool have had a lot of the ball but Fabianski’s hardly had a shot to save. They just haven’t tested the keeper.”

Lukasz Fabianski was equal to all Liverpool threw at him, but Swansea did have a lucky escape in injury time when Roberto Firmino headed against the post.

Hartson added: “I don’t know how Firmino missed that header from six yards out.”

Liverpool beat Manchester City a week earlier, scoring four goals in a spectacular performance.

This was a come down from that high, and the result leaves Liverpool in fourth, six points behind second placed Manchester United.
