Tottenham sold Kane to Bayern Munich against the risk of a free transfer

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy agreed to sell Kane against the risk of the striker leaving for free next summer. The 84-cap ace was set to be out of contract at the end of the season. He bowed out after scoring 280 goals and laying on 64 assists in 435 games in all competitions.

His last season in north London featured 32 goals and five assists in 49 games, as well. Kane scored 18 more goals than Son Heung-Min, who ended the campaign second in Tottenham’s scoring charts. Rodrigo Bentancur also ended the term third with the midfielder’s mere six.

Now, Reo-Coker reckons Tottenham selling Kane has taken all of the pressure off new Spurs manager Postecoglou. The Australian took over the helm in north London this summer with Levy finally replacing Antonio Conte. He took charge after a trophy-laden tenure with Celtic.

Reo-Coker explained on BBC Sport’s Football Daily podcast: “Postecoglou is definitely under no pressure whatsoever because Tottenham is a shambolic club at the moment.”

Postecoglou won the Premiership title and the Scottish League Cup in both of his two terms at Celtic. He also sealed a domestic treble in 2022/23 by adding a Scottish Cup honour to his haul. Now, Tottenham hope Postecoglou takes a Kane-less team to a first trophy since 2008.
