Dimitri Payet helped West Ham United to a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.
Former player Dion Dublin believes that West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet will be looking at his teammates and pleading for extra support following the club’s poor start to the season, the BBC report.
The Hammers have been well below par this season, and their latest 1-1 draw at home to Middlesbrough extends their winless run to five matches and leaves them in the bottom three.
It could have been worse for West Ham as Boro took the lead in East London, yet Payet’s wonderful individual goal hauled them level and put an end to the run of successive defeats.
The France international could have arguably forced a move to a Champions League club in the summer, yet he stuck around at West Ham in the hope of another top-four push this term,
With West Ham instead struggling to get going, Dublin feels Payet will be looking around and asking more from his teammates as a number of players now need to stand up and be counted for,
He told the BBC: “It’s frustrating to see a Slaven Bilic side playing as bad as they are this season after the previous campaign.
“What West Ham have shown us this year they need more players to stand up and be counted. There’s a lot of pressure on Dimitri Payet but he’ll be looking round and thinking ‘lads come on, help me out here’.”
West Ham have struggled to make the most of their increased capacity at the London Stadium and injuries to key players such as Andre Ayew and Andy Carroll has taken its toll.
But Slaven Bilic’s side still boast plenty of quality and a number of current first-teamers are the same players who helped West Ham push for a top four spot at the end of last season.
Payet, as talented as he is, cannot do it alone and his teammates no doubt need to start pulling their weight.
