Pundit Tony Cascarino has been heavily critical of Harry Kane after his anonymous display for Tottenham Hotspur in their 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

For context, Kane had a mere 14 touches in the first-half (via Squawka), against Villa, which is rather surprising for the team’s playmaker-in-chief.

In the second half as well, the England captain failed to get involved in any way, shape or form.

Often, Harry Kane ends up affecting the game in one way or another, if he is not as involved as usual, as seen against Brentford with his cracking headed goal.

However, it was a surprise to the 29-year-old on the fringes of a contest where Spurs needed their protagonist to rise to the occasion.

Despite Kane being uncharacteristically quiet, one can let that go as he is so often the one with all the answers for Tottenham.

Additionally, the prolific striker is having one hell of a season.

However, pundit Tony Cascarino was scathing in his assessment of a poor Harry Kane showing, as Tottenham succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

“I have rarely seen Harry [Kane] look as disillusioned as he did during Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Aston Villa. He was on the fringes and looked like he was past his sell-by date.”

“Now, he has still had a fantastic goalscoring season, is playing in front of a very frustrated crowd and is coming off a difficult, emotional ending to his World Cup.”

“However, yesterday, he was unrecognizable from the player who could drop deep, pressure defenders and dominate an entire game, as in previous seasons”, he told the Times.

Slightly harsh from Cascarino on Kane

Admittedly, Tottenham talisman Harry Kane was far from his unplayable best against Aston Villa.

However, it is slightly unfair from pundit Tony Cascarino to suggest that Kane looked past his sell-by date, as any and every player in world football has the odd off day.

Ultimately, the fact that the English striker is having as stellar a season as he has in a Spurs side devoid of any creativity itself is a surprise in the first place.
