Former footballer Garth Crooks has told The BBC about his admiration for West Ham United attacker Manuel Lanzini.
The Hammers drew 2-2 away to Chelsea at the weekend, but could easily have won the game, had they not been pegged back by a controversially awarded penalty, scored by Cesc Fabregas.
It is often Dimitri Payet who gets the praise for his impact on the West Ham team, but Crooks argues that at the weekend at least, Lanzini was the catalyst for their best moments, scoring the game’s opening goal.
He said: “I was at Stamford Bridge for West Ham’s game against Chelsea and I was majorly impressed with Lanzini. The little Argentine was sensational and appeared to have an infectious effect on the entire West Ham team.
“To be perfectly honest, West Ham were the better side on the day and should have won this game.”
Lanzini is currently at West Ham on a season long loan from UAE side Al Jazira. The Mail reported late last week that the Hammers want to complete his signing on a permanent basis.
He now has five goals for the season, making him the club’s third highest goalscorer in all competitions behind Dimitri Payet (11) and Michail Antonio (9).
