BBC pundit Garth Crooks raves about Watford’s Marco Silva, claims he must leave to join Everton

Everton are still searching for a new manager after sacking Ronald Koeman.

Pundit Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that he thinks Watford boss Marco Silva has to leave the club in order to join Everton – and backed Alan Pardew as a possible replacement.

Watford enjoyed a fine afternoon on Sunday, as goals from Will Hughes and Richarlison handed them a 2-0 home win over West Ham United, snapping a three-game losing run.

The Hornets moved up to eighth in the Premier League table with that win, and the victory came at a vital time given the questions over Marco Silva’s future at the club.

Watford only appointed Silva over the summer, with the 40-year-old impressing at Hull City in the second half of last season despite the Tigers’ relegation – and his start to life at Vicarage Road has triggered interest.

Everton made an approach to land Silva last week, but Watford stood firm, as they desperately attempt to keep hold of the striker for the long-term, just months after appointing him in the first place.

The Toffees seemingly haven’t given up just yet though, with continues speculation that they will look to make the Portuguese boss their new manager after Ronald Koeman’s exit.

Now, pundit Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that Silva ‘must’ leave to take the Everton job, praising him for his ability to make ordinary teams ‘considerably better’ – as he has with Watford this term.

Crooks added that, if Silva does leave for Goodison Park, then Watford should move for ex-Newcastle and Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew as a replacement – in a move which may not go down too well with fans.

“Watford are enjoying their best start to a Premier League season under Marco Silva and that has created tremendous interest in the manager’s ability to take ordinary teams and make them considerably better,” said Crooks.

“I said a only a few weeks ago, in this very column, that Everton should move very quickly to secure the services of this exciting manager, and to their credit they have. If Silva goes to Everton – and I think he must – Watford can do much worse than to replace him with Alan Pardew, who has a lot to offer,” he added.
