Manchester City defeated Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford.
Former player Chris Waddle believes Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will have learned that his side lack pace and energy through the middle as they were defeated 2-1 by Manchester City, the BBC report.
In what was billed as one of the most intriguing Manchester derbies in years, it was all too easy for Pep Guardiola’s men in the early stages as Kevin De Bruyne and Kelechi Iheanacho put City in control.
The Citizens dominated possession and looked much more lively than their hosts, yet United did find a way back into the match as Zlatan Ibrahimovic profited from an error from City debutant Claudio Bravo.
However, United couldn’t find a way through in the second period and it was City who claimed all three points, leaving Mourinho frustrated and probably wondering why his players failed to show up in the first half.
“Fully deserved. The difference between the two teams is massive. Mourinho will have learned today that he needs legs in his team,” Waddle explained to the BBC.
“City look so sharp but Manchester United look as if three or four players, especially the two up front, haven’t got a sprint in them.”
“Looking at United today, has their performance been much different to last season? I’m not sure. If Louis van Gaal had been in charge of this he’d be getting hammered.”
The introduction of Marcus Rashford after half-time certainly sparked some life into the hosts, yet most of their better moments came as a result of Bravo’s uncertainty in the City goal rather than great play.
Victory takes City to the top of the Premier League table, while for United their supporters will be hoping for a better performance in their next outing which seemingly can’t come quickly enough for Mourinho.
City host Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium next Saturday, while United travel to Watford on Sunday.
