Garth Crooks says it is time Tottenham striker made team accolades his focus.
Harry Kane’s individual record in 2017 is hard to find fault with – unless you happen to be Garth Crooks.
The Tottenham Hotspur striker has been called out by the BBC pundit, for failing to make team accolades his focus.
Crooks told BBC Sport that he believes Kane should make winning silverware his absolute focus.
He said, after voting him into his Team of the festive period: “To score 56 goals in a calendar year is some achievement but shouldn’t the best finisher in the country be talking about winning trophies instead of breaking records in his post-match interviews?
“Scoring goals is Kane’s job and he does it exceptionally well we know that. Records are for statisticians especially when your trophy cabinet is bare.
“Meanwhile, players like Raheem Sterling and Victor Moses (who I am often told are not in Kane’s class) are adding domestic and European titles to their names. Need I say more?”
In Kane’s defence, he was likely responding to questions about his achievements in post-game interviews, rather than bringing them up himself.
The striker will be all too aware he should add trophies to his collection, but his career is still at it’s early stages.
Only so much of that is on him, with Spurs spending like paupers compared to the stratospheric amounts invested by Manchester City.
Tottenham may be able to begin competing financially on a similar level once they move into their new stadium, but certainly not right away.
As for Victor Moses, we wish Garth Crooks good luck finding a Tottenham fan who would swap Harry Kane for him despite his one league title medal.
