Danny Murphy has said that he felt that Arsenal’s midfield looked all wrong against Leeds United on Sunday, as per his comments to BBC Sport.

Arsenal held out for a draw against Leeds at the weekend, but their performance at Elland Road was far from encouraging.

The Gunners were outplayed for much of the contest, with Leeds racking up 25 shots.

Arsenal’s defence could take some credit for standing firm, but the fact Mikel Arteta’s side managed to claim a point owed a lot to Leeds’ poor finishing.

Arsenal just could not get a foot hold in the game, even before they were reduced to 10 men.

And Murphy felt that one of the reasons they struggled so badly is because their midfield looked so disjointed.

“In midfield, they were missing the injured Thomas Partey, who was so important in their win at Old Trafford at the start of November, and with the three players they had in that area – Granit Xhaka, Dani Ceballos and Joe Willock – they did not look very balanced,” he said.

“None of them seemed to know exactly what they should be doing.”

Arsenal may have to do without Partey for some time yet, so that could now be a major concern for Arteta.

The Gunners are currently sat in 12th place in the Premier League table, and the pressure will continue to build on the Spanish manager, unless he is able to improve performances dramatically soon.
