Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has told BBC Sport that he feels Jurgen Klopp’s side need to sign a central defender as well as Thiago Alcantara.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with Thiago this summer, with most fans craving the addition of the Spanish midfielder.
But Warnock feels that Liverpool would be making a mistake if they solely focused on snapping up the Bayern Munich midfielder.
And he insists that another central defender would be a key signing for Liverpool, if they are to win the league again.
“Thiago Alcantara would make a huge difference to Liverpool’s midfield if they can get him from Bayern and I still think they need another centre-half, like most of the top teams do,” Warnock said.
“But, even without them buying anyone else, I still go through Klopp’s side and think they are the team to beat.”

Liverpool already have a very solid pairing at the back, with Joe Gomez’s and Virgil van Dijk’s partnership proving excellent last term.
Klopp can also call on the very reliable Joel Matip, if one of his first choice defenders gets injured.
Liverpool did lose Dejan Lovren over the summer though, which means that if both Van Dijk and Gomez were to be unavailable they could be in some trouble.
Klopp may like to add another centre-back to his ranks this summer, although he does have the likes of Sepp van den Berg and Ki-Jana Hoever who he could potentially call upon.
