Rory Smith has suggested that German wonderkid Florian Wirtz, who is a transfer target for Tottenham, could be purchased by someone like Arsenal in the near future, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

The New York Times journalist added that the Bayer Leverkusen sensation is the ‘next Havertz’ and if a club like Bayern Munich don’t buy him down the line, then it could be the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City.

Wirtz is possibly dubbed the next big thing to come out of Germany and is a player that is being tracked by several Premier League clubs, with Bild reporting that Leverkusen want £125 million for the Spurs and Liverpool transfer target.

Given the financial pull of Bayern and of Premier League clubs in England, any top talent thriving in Germany is quickly plucked away from that team’s grasp, which doesn’t allow them to build and, as a result, challenge the biggest giant that are Munich.

That’s probably why they recently celebrated a tenth successive Bundesliga crown, as Rory Smith made the following claim about 18-year-old wonderkid, Wirtz.

“To use the Leverkusen example,” said Smith. “They are the third richest club in Germany.

“They have got a kid called Florian Wirtz, who is their kind of next Havertz. Wirtz has been one of the breakthrough players of the German season. If he’s fit, then he will be in the German World Cup squad.

“He’s the next cab off the rank for a big fee. Leverkusen would do well to keep him until he is 20.

“It may not be Bayern. If it’s not Bayern (that buys him), then it will be Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal who buys him.”

As Havertz has proven during his early years in the Premier League, he is a serious top talent and a player that will reach very high levels in the future.

A player of great touch and superb attacking movement, in Havertz’s first season in England, he scored the winning goal in the Champions League final for Chelsea.

That’s some introduction for the versatile forward, who has now pushed ahead of big-money summer signing, Romelu Lukaku, in Thomas Tuchel’s first-team plans.

Whilst someone like Wirtz can stay patient for a few years yet, someone like Havertz is showing him how he can turn that talent into proven performances.
