Micah Richards hailed Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford and claimed that he has been ‘electric’ every week this season, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former right-back shared that unlike Chelsea’s struggling summer signing Timo Wener, the Leeds man is getting in the right positions and putting the ball into the back of the net.

Werner moved to the Premier League from RB Leipzig for £45 million in the summer (Sky Sports), as many backed him to thrive, but at this moment in time, he has been outperformed by the newly-promoted, Bamford.

Whilst Werner is sitting on only four goals this season, Bamford is thriving in his Leeds colours with 11 goals and Richards lauded him for his performances.

“You still got to do it [even if you are playing in a team that suits you],” said Richards. “I think that’s the most important thing.

“Like Werner is getting into the right positions but he’s not scoring the goals. Bamford’s actually doing it.

“It’s one thing getting into those positions but Bamford is electric every single week. Every single week, you watch footage of Leeds and he gets a chance every game, doesn’t he?

“And that’s astonishing from a team that didn’t know that they were going to stay in the Premier League or not. The numbers that he’s putting up.”

Bamford proved against Leicester over the weekend as to why he is one of the most complete forwards in the division.

If it wasn’t for the high volume of players England have in the attacking areas then he perhaps would have a Three Lions cap to his name already.

But with Harry Kane, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Marcus Rashford and Danny Ings all ahead of him, it’s going to be tough.

Not forgetting that Tammy Abraham was selected in England’s most recent squad and the high-flying Callum Wilson already has tasted international football.
