Former Liverpool star David Thompson has claimed on Twitter that Jurgen Klopp should have subbed Ozan Kabak after only five minutes last night.

The Reds lost their first Merseyside derby for 11 years as Everton picked up a 2-0 victory at Anfield.

Liverpool have been architechts of their own downfall a lot in recent weeks, what with Alisson making a string of high-profile errors in different games, but it was Kabak most at blame for the Toffees’ opener after only three minutes.

The 20-year-old defender, who joined on loan from Schalke last month due to Jurgen Klopp’s crisis of centre-back options, failed to read the run of Richarlsion, who fired the visitors into a very early lead.

Kabak, who was also booked, continued to look pretty nervous for the rest of the game and Thompson claims that Klopp should’ve subbed him off before the five-minute mark.

Is this fair? Well, no.

It isn’t Kabak’s fault that he’s playing alongside a centre midfielder in the form of Jordan Henderson, who had to drop into defence once again.

This is an unprecedented crisis of defensive options for Liverpool, which is why the Turkey international was signed in the first place.

And although quite a few fans of the Merseyside club will slate the youngster, it’s worth remembering that he’s only 20 and his display against Leipzig in midweek is evidence that there’s also a lot of potential there.
