Micah Richards has stated that it’s ‘a bit patronising’ as to how Divock Origi is perceived at Liverpool, as he told the Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
For the umpteenth time, Origi came off the bench for Jurgen Klopp’s side at the weekend and scored a last-gasp winner at Wolves.
The Belgian has more appearances from the bench than he does starts and it seems as though he is content with that idea.
Origi’s goalscoring record is better from the bench as well, including him scoring some special and vital goals during that period.
From the Champions League final to him pouncing on Jordan Pickford’s error in the Merseyside derby, it’s all written in the history books now.
Richards spoke about the player’s situation at Anfield and how he would feel playing such a role.
“No player wants to sit on the bench,” said Richards. “But if you ask Origi, do you want to be part of something special at Liverpool? Or go somewhere mid-table and be the main man and struggling for goals?
“He would probably say ‘I want to stick at Liverpool’. And he is becoming a cult hero.
“You see Andy Roberton’s tweet that he will take his grandkids to see a statue of Origi because that’s the importance he has in this team. Yes, it’s very difficult and sometimes it’s a bit patronising.
“I think where he has been very unlucky in that Mane and Salah are rarely injured. Firmino gets his knocks every now and again. Then the form of Jota. So, he has been unlucky on that front.”

The Reds take on AC Milan in the final group game of the Champions League on Tuesday night and Origi will be handed a rare start.
If Liverpool needed points to qualify for the knockout stages, then he probably would have been on the bench again.
But this is a chance for Origi to showcase his other powers and that’s from the get-go, rather than being the rescue act from the bench.
Regardless of the lack of starts Origi has had under Klopp, one thing he has already done is become a club great and someone who will be remembered for a very, very long time.
