Pundit Michael Stewart has told BBC Sport’s Sportscene that he thinks Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has already shown that he’s a ‘stark contrast’ to predecessor Mark Warburton.

The Gers could only muster a 1-1 draw with Motherwell on Saturday afternoon, as Louis Moult’s third minute opener was eventually cancelled out by Joe Garner’s second half equaliser.

It was still a case of two points dropped for Rangers given that they now lie ten points behind Aberdeen in the race for the second place in the Scottish Premiership, but the big talking point from the game was Pedro Caixinha’s substitutions.

At half time, with Rangers 1-0 down, Caixinha took the rarely-seen decision to make all three substitutions in one go, with the new Gers boss going all-out for goals in the second half.

Defenders Lee Hodson, Clint Hill and Lee Wallace were all substituted at the break, with midfielder Andy Halliday, winger Michael O’Halloran and striker Garner all being brought on.

Caixinha took the stunning choice to place playmaker Jon Toral in defence alongside Rob Kiernan and Halliday, with Barrie McKay and Michael O’Halloran out wide, and both Jason Holt and Emerson Hyndman in midfield.

The attacking setup also saw Kenny Miller and Martyn Waghorn support Garner in attack, and whilst it didn’t give Rangers the win, it did get them a point.

Now, pundit Michael Stewart has told BBC Sport’s Sportscene that Caixinha is already a ‘stark contrast’ to predecessor Mark Warburton, claiming that the triple substitution and attacking setup were things that Warburton would never have even considered during his time in charge.

“Just looking at that defensive setup from Rangers, and I know obviously that it was enforced, but it was a stark contrast to Mark Warburton,” said Stewart. “They was a structure in place, they never changed. Under Caixinha – I know it was enforced slightly – but Mark Warburton would have never contemplated doing that,” he added.
