Garth Crooks told BBC Sport that Michael Keane is ‘one of the game’s unsung heroes’ after he helped Everton record a 1-0 win against Chelsea on Saturday evening.
Frank Lampard’s side went into the game at Goodison Park hoping to move top of the Premier League table, but their previously thriving attack was stopped by Everton’s wall.
From the backline to the Duracell batteries in the middle of the park, Carlo Ancelotti’s side made life tough for his former side.
Former Spurs striker Crooks picked out Everton’s £30 million signing [BBC Sport] as one of the standout performers and shared what he likes about him.
“It’s always a good sign when the manager picks out his defence as the main reason for his team’s victory,” said Crooks.
“Carlo Ancelotti was in no doubt as to the reason Everton beat the club he won the Premier League title with during his last managerial stint in the country.
“At the heart of that victory over Chelsea was Michael Keane. The former Burnley defender is one of the game’s unsung heroes. He hardly misses any games, gives 100% every game and even when he has an off-day you somehow can’t give him a hard time about it.”

Ever since Keane moved to Merseyside from Burnley in 2017, he has been trying to make a name for himself and trying to show that he is capable of being a top-quality performer.
The former Manchester United man has had a number of indifferent moments over the years…. up until recently.
It could be argued that under Ancelotti, Keane has perhaps produced his best football and that form has also seen him win his place back in the England squad.
