Waddle says Liverpool and England have used Jordan Henderson incorrectly.
Former England international Chris Waddle has criticised the development of Liverpool star Jordan Henderson.
Henderson, 26, captained England against Spain last night in the 2-2 draw at Wembley.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily, Waddle reflected on how he felt Henderson did not look comfortable playing in a deep role, and wants to see him be the dynamic player he was in 2013/14.
England’s Jordan Henderson
He said: “Henderson is a player who sued to make terrific runs forward beyond Suarez, beyond Sturridge, Sterling at Liverpool, and open space up for the rest of the team. He was brilliant at it.
“Now they’ve converted hm to an anchor in midfield. I think theyve took a lot of his game away from running past people. I honestly do.
“I would have left him, he’s young, he’s fit, he should be making runs forward. He shouldn’t be sitting in front of the back four.”

In the 2014/15 season, Henderson’s attacking instincts saw him score six goals and provide nine assists.
Last season he took a step back, scoring only two Premier League goals and adding three assists as he assume a more defensive role. This season he has one goal and two assists so far.
It is understandable therefore that Waddle wants to see him back to their dynamic best, but at Liverpool his changing role is in part connected to the balance of their squad.
Liverpool are weak defensively and strong in attack, and so Henderson’s ability to do both means he will be utilised in an area they need him more, but if the Reds could solve their issues in the backline, then the former Sunderland man could get the chance to rampage forward far more than he currently does.
