Chris Sutton has had his say on the confrontation between Leeds United boss Garry Monk and Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner.
Pundit Chris Sutton has told BBC Radio Five Live that he didn’t understand Garry Monk’s rant following Leeds United’s 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield Town on Sunday afternoon.
Leeds were looking for bragging rights against West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield, but after Chris Wood had equalised following Izzy Brown’s opener for the hosts, Huddersfield won the game late on as Michael Hefele grabbed the winner.
As if losing so late on wasn’t galling enough for the Leeds, they then became embroiled in a touchline fracas featuring both managers and the two sets of players.

Players rushed over to get involved, and whilst there were no massively ugly scenes, both managers were sent to the stands for the final moments of the game after their row.

This is already a strong rivalry, and Wagner’s exuberant celebrations appear to have stoked the fire even more, as Leeds boss Monk blasted Wagner for a lack of respect and humility; the values he was brought up on himself.
Sunday’s situation has caused debate over who was in the wrong, and pundit Chris Sutton has now offered his view to BBC Radio Five Live.
Sutton suggested that Monk will have wanted to knock Wagner out after his over-the-top celebrations, but couldn’t understand his rant about the way he was brought up, claiming that excitement is needed in football.
“Garry Monk was probably thinking ‘I would love to knock him out here’ and that’s why he actually restrained was I think,” said Sutton. “He shouldn’t have done what he did, you have to take it and I didn’t really understand the rant from Garry Monk after, about the way he was brought up and this, that and the other.”

“We want to see excitement in the game, but in football we’re all big babies, we’re all sore losers and that’s just the way it is, so I can understand how Garry Monk was feeling,” he added.
