Noel Whelan said on The Noel Whelan Show on BBC Radio Leeds on Friday evening (broadcast from 6pm, September 30, 2016) that he cannot understand why Kalvin Phillips splits opinion among the Leeds United fans.

The former Leeds striker believes that Phillips is one of the most improved and most consistent players of the season so far.

The Englishman, who now works as a pundit for BBC Radio Leeds, has admitted that he cannot understand why fans are split over the 20-year-old midfielder.

“There is one player that splits opinion with the fans, and I don’t understand why, who I think is probably one of the most improved and most consistent players this season, is Kalvin Phillips,” said Whelan on The Noel Whelan Show on BBC Radio Leeds on Friday evening (broadcast from 6pm, September 30, 2016).

Phillips has been on the books of Leeds since 2010 and has a contract with the Championship club until June 2019, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

The 20-year-old has established himself as an important player in the current Leeds team and has played quite well this campaign.

The midfielder has scored one goal and created nine chances in nine Championship appearances for the Whites so far this season.

Phillips is still very young and is developing as a footballer, but the signs are very encouraging. If the youngster plays regularly this season, then he could become a star for Leeds.
