BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has said that he is unsure whether Antonio Conte is the right man to fix Tottenham, after their 2-0 defeat to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

Since the return of Premier League football, Conte and Co. have slipped further down in their quest of finally playing like a top side.

Against Brentford, it took a spirited comeback for Tottenham to salvage a point, after initially conceding two goals.

But a fightback was not on show for the £288,000 man’s side against Aston Villa, who comfortably beat Spurs 2-0 on New Year’s Day.

Question marks surround whether Antonio Conte, once described as “world-class” by Ben Davies (via TEAMtalk) can spearhead a turnaround at Tottenham, amongst many excluding just Garth Crooks.

So far this season, Conte’s side have struggled to convince that they have a coherent system in place that is set to remain sustainable in the long term.

Unless it is the individual brilliance on show from the frontline or an unusual suspect manages to step up out of the blue, it seems as if the North Londoners have little to no answers.

BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has questioned whether Antonio Conte is the right candidate to fix Tottenham, after his side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

“There can be no doubt about the arrival of Unai Emery has started to galvanize the villa but Spurs are starting games desperately slowly these days and are suffering as a consequence.”

“Something is not quite right at Tottenham at the moment and I’m beginning to wonder whether Antonio Conte is the right man to fix it.”

“There was a distinct lack of urgency, passion and defensive nous amongst the Tottenham rank and file”, he wrote on BBC Sport.

Questions will soon be asked of Conte

There is no denying that the appointment of Antonio Conte remains a masterstroke from Tottenham.

But it is also worth asking whether Conte should be doing better with the side at his disposal, despite obvious upgrades needed in certain areas.

With Tottenham expected to secure Champions League at the very least, Antonio Conte will have to answer several questions at his doorstep in time, as his side are currently looks miles off it.
