BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce has shared why Tottenham star Son Heung-min was left “fuming” on 65 minutes during South Korea’s 3-2 defeat to Ghana – with the skipper having a glorious chance to make it 3-3 on Monday.
Son, 30, wore a mask once again as South Korea looked to get something from a crucial Group H clash. Ghana came into the game without a single point after losing the Portugal, while South Korea and Son were on one point.
That is, after drawing 0-0 with Uruguay. A topsy-turvy game on Monday saw Ghana take a 2-0 lead, only for South Korea to peg them back with two quick-fire goals. However, Ghana re-took the lead, through Mohammed Kudus.
Not long after the fifth goal of a wonderful World Cup clash, Son had the chance to score. Free on the left, a simple pass into him would have allowed him to shoot first time – left, or right. The pass was overhit. It forced Son to control.
The Spurs ace tried to cut inside but when he did, three Ghanaians smothered him. BBC reporter Pearce said: “By the time he got his shot away, three players were around him to block. He is furious with the quality of the ball into him.”

It was a real chance. A neat pass into Son, and he can curl a right-footed effort into the far corner. Or, let it come across him and hit one with his laces, left-footed, across the Ghana goalkeeper. But the pass was a really poor one.
Probably, the best chance Son has had at the World Cup so far. But he was let down by the pass and the chance went begging. Son was a picture of frustration throughout the match, perhaps lacking in a bit of match sharpness.
