Tottenham Hotspur should seriously consider a move for the Bayern Munich midfielder.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will surely be determined to bolster his midfield options at White Hart Lane this summer, and the Argentine should be on the look-out for a creative, ball-playing midfielder to help provide something different to what he currently has at his disposal.
With this in mind, Spurs should consider a move for Bayern Munich ace Thiago Alcantara, who is valued at around £50 million, according to a report from talkSPORT.
The 27-year-old joined Bayern from Barcelona in the summer of 2013, for somewhere in the region of £20 million, and he has since gone on to establish himself as one of the continent’s finest midfielders.
Thiago can play anywhere from the deep-lying playmaker role, to the more advanced number 10 position, and his ability on the ball, combined with a wonderful array of passing would certainly help Tottenham improve upon the fluidity of their play through the middle of the park.
The Spain international would be the perfect foil to the more ball-winning styles of Victor Wanyama or Eric Dier, and would provide Pochetitno with an entirely different option in midfield.
He could also make the difference for Spurs in tight games against teams who sit deep and pout 10 men behind the ball.
Whilst £50 million seems like a lot of money for Tottenham to lay out on one player, they should easily be able to meet Bayern’s reported asking price, especially if they garner somewhere in the region of £30 million for Mousa Dembele’s signature.
The Spaniard is thought to be on somewhere in the region of £100,000 per week at the Allianz Arena, according to Silly Season, so the Lilywhites would have to make him one of the club’s highest earners, if they were to stand any chance of bringing him to north London.
Thiago really is an elite performer, and his arrival at Spurs would surely take Pochettino’s side to an entirely new level.
