Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal predicts Celtic to finish third in the Champions League group

Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal doesn’t think Celtic will qualify from their group.

Celtic extended their unbeaten run in the domestic competition to 59 games after beating Dundee 1-0 at Celtic Park on Saturday.

Now, the focus shifts to Europe as they travel to Germany to face Bayern Munich in the crucial Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena.

Celtic are third in Group B, on equal points with Bayern. They defeated Anderlecht in their last Champions League game, and the confidence in the team should be sky high.

If they can manage a draw here, it will not only be a massive result for them but will also put them in a good position to qualify from the group.

However, according to Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal, Celtic have no chance to finish above them. However, he tips the Bhoys to finish above Anderlecht.

Ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash, Vidal said that Bayern are obliged to be in the next round. He expects both Bayern and PSG to qualify from the group.

The Chilean added that if Celtic can beat Anderlecht at home, they will be favourites for the third place.

“I always respect our rivals but Bayern is obliged to be in the next round. That’s normal for us,” said Vidal as quoted the Sunday Mail (printed edition; October 15th – page 65).

“The challenge for us is to actually get to the final and win it. PSG are a main rival and a leader of this group. But we’re able to beat the French and I expect us both to progress.

“For third place? Anderlecht are Belgian Champions but Celtic are a historic club in Europe. If they beat Anderlecht at home, they can go through. They are favourites now for the third place.”
