Bayern Munich will reportedly look to sign Ilkay Gundogan if the German international refuses to pen a new contract with Manchester City, with the midfielder’s current deal set to expire at the end of this season.

90min claim that the Bundesliga giants are interested in a move for Gundogan next summer, with the 32-year-old currently set to leave City as a free agent should the midfielder failed to sign a new contract with the club, with Bayern waiting in the wings to pounce.

As per the report, though, Gundogan and City are keen to do talks over a new deal, with the midfielder currently earning a reported £140,000-a-week, making the former Borussia Dortmund star, surprisingly, one of the more lower-paid players at the club and well behind the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish.

With Gundogan one of City’s best players and a key reason behind their last two Premier League title wins, it makes sense why Bayern are keen to sign the midfielder and to bring the superstar back to the Bundesliga, with the playmaker leaving Germany for Manchester over seven years ago.

Indeed, whilst Gundogan wants to stay at City, winning the UEFA Champions League this season could spur the midfielder on to return to Germany, with the 32-year-old then leaving the club winning everything possible there is to win with the Premier League giants.

Moreover, with Bayern the biggest club in Germany, Gundogan can try his luck at winning even more silverware in his career with the Bundesliga giants, who could be well-facilitated to play the German international on a weekly basis given his qualities.

Man City need to make Gundogan decision quickly amid Bayern interest

Gundogan’s time at City has been nothing short of incredible, with the midfielder arguably one of the biggest bargains in the club’s modern history as the German star inspired the Manchester side to numerous trophies under Pep Guardiola. However, a decision soon has to be made over his future amid interest from Bayern.

Returning to Germany now at this stage of his career could be an appealing move for Gundogan, and with Bayern in need of something different in their midfield, the City star could be just the ticket next season if the Bavarian side are to maintain their dominance in the division.
