Bayern Munich have reportedly made Brentford’s David Raya their top target as they search for a new goalkeeper this summer.

According to a surprise report from Italian outlet Gazzetta della Sport, David Raya has emerged as the German champions’ top target. Bayern’s Yann Sommer is set to make the move to Inter Milan according to the same report.

The Italian outlet takes it a step further and says that the deal is ‘advanced’ that would see Raya switch Brentford for Bayern. A fairly swift resolution could be present with this deal.

The report states they have opted for the signing of Raya due to the Swiss goalkeeper moving on from the Allianz Arena.

Sommer has reportedly said his goodbyes to his teammates and is set to join Inter’s pre-season training camp in Japan. He has also thanked Thomas Tuchel and will depart soon.

Bayern Munich could be able to sign David Raya

The appeal for the myriad of teams that have needed a goalkeeper this summer is that Raya has just one year left on his contract.

The Spaniard seemed destined to make the move to Tottenham this summer after they agreed personal terms, according to Fabrizio Romano, but the Lilywhites changed priorities.

Spurs decided to sign Empoli’s goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, instead, for a fee reported to be in the region of £17 million according to Sky Sports, after Thomas Frank’s side demanded £40 million for Raya.

This has left the door open for the Germans, who are desperately in need of a goalkeeper following Manuel Neuer’s injury and Sommer’s reported move to Inter.

Tuchel’s side would be smart to let his contract run down and sign a cheaper alternative in the meantime, or maybe put in a lowball offer towards the end of the window for the Spaniard.

Brentford will have a decision to make as Raya will be free to sign a pre-contract deal with any team outside of the Premier League in January.
