Newcastle United and Aston Villa have spoken to the agent of Marcus Thuram with Bayern Munich potentially leaving the door open for the Premier League duo, according to FC Inter News.
It’s a trend we are starting to see more and more in top-level football. Players running down their contracts, in the hope of being able to choose their own destiny.
Thuram has had his fair share of contract offers at Borussia Monchengladbach. But, with his deal expiring in July, the France international knows that he will be negotiating from a position of serious strength when becoming a free-agent, especially with so much clubs taking an interest.

In addition to Manchester United and Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle have reportedly held talks with Thuram’s representative. Barcelona too. Inter Milan, meanwhile, are offering the former Guingamp starlet a five-year deal worth around £85,000-a-week.
Aston Villa and Newcastle are in Marcus Thuram talks
There’s certainly no shortage of competition, then.
At least, with Bayern Munich focusing on getting Sadio Mane back to full fitness and tying down Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting, Villa, Newcastle and co can avoid going into battle with one of the biggest clubs on the continent. Interest from the Allianz Arena in Thuram, the report adds, has ‘waned’ of late.
An explosive left-sided attacker in the Marcus Rashford mould, Thuram possesses quick feet and explosive finishing. The goals have dried up of late but he still has 10 in just 19 Gladbach starts in 2022/23; one Bundesliga director labelling the 25-year-old a genuinely ‘world-class’ talent.
“He’s having an amazing season. He’s scored a lot of goals,” says former Germany striker Oliver Neuville, now an assistant coach to Daniel Farke at Borussia Park.
“I think it will be difficult for him to stay at Gladbach. If he continues to score so many goals, it’s certain he’ll have many offers from Italy, Spain and England.
“We must also be a little realistic. I hope he will still be here for a long time in Monchengladbach. But now he’s been called up by French for the World Cup, it will be difficult for him to extend.”
