Bayern Munich could reportedly launch a bid to sign France international Marcus Thuram in January, a player on Everton’s radar as the German giants look for alternatives to Tottenham star Harry Kane.

According to L’Equipe, the Bundesliga champions are eager to speed up the transfer process to sign a new striker, with Kane long-viewed as Bayern’s number one option in the 2023 summer transfer window. However, Thuram’s contract situation at Borussia Monchengladbach has made the forward a much more attractive option.

As well as being an overall cheaper transfer, Thuram’s contract with Gladbach is due to expire in 2023, with the striker set to leave the Bundesliga side next year. And for Bayern, the 25-year-old could be their short-term solution for their attacker problems.

Reportedly on Everton’s radar as per Graeme Bailey on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Bayern’s interest to sign Thuram in January will come as a huge relief for Tottenham, with reports suggesting that the Bavarian side were keen to sign Kane next summer in a blockbuster deal.

Robert Lewandowski’s departure to FC Barcelona has left a huge hole in Bayern’s attack, and with Sadio Mane yet to hit the ground running, a more conventional striker to lead the line could be targeted in 2023, which is where Thuram comes into the fold.

Although the attacker has not quite hit the potential many thought the Frenchman would achieve, Thuram is still a quality top-flight forward who would thrive for a big club, such as Bayern. And for Tottenham, the news should be met with jubilation ahead of 2023.

Once valued as highly as £38m as reported by Bild, Thuram joining Bayern would be as big a result for Tottenham as it would for the Bundesliga giants. And for Everton, losing out on the attacker will hardly be the worst piece of news in the world.

After all, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is finally back to full fitness, and given Frank Lampard’s eye for a good deal, the English coach could easily find a good alternative to Thuram, who might finally recapture the form that made the 25-year-old such a promising talent not so long ago.
