Bayern Leverkusen are reportedly interested in signing West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal, with Xabi Alonso keen on recruiting a right-back in the January transfer window.

According to Sky Germany, the Liverpool legend is keen to add to his Leverkusen squad in the upcoming window, with right-back a position Alonso is eager to strengthen following a dismal campaign from the Bundesliga side, with Coufal an option for the German giants.

The Czech Republic international has been a regular for West Ham ever since joining the club in 2020 for a reported £5m, though Coufal this season has seen the 30-year-old lose out his spot at right-back to Germany international and new arrival Thilo Kehrer.

As a result, a January move could now be on the cards for Coufal, with Leverkusen’s interest of particular note given how exciting Alonso’s tenure at the club could be, even with the German side crashing out of this season’s UEFA Champions League at the group stage.

Indeed, with West Ham drifting far away from a European spot in the Premier League table, Coufal could be tempted to move to Leverkusen in January, with the Bundesliga side presenting themselves as an exciting new challenge for the right-back who has arguably done all he cane for the Irons.

Whilst Leverkusen themselves are some way off the European pack in the German top-flight, there’s a good chance that Alonso could turn their luck around in 2023. And for Coufal, joining the European giants would be quite an exciting final big move in his illustrious career.

Coufal has enjoyed a productive time in east London since joining the Hammers in 2020, yet with the fullback hitting 30 and a big club like Leverkusen interested in signing him, the defender should jump at the chance to join the Bundesliga side if the Irons receive a strong offer for his services.

After all, Coufal has proven he is capable of playing for a top side on the continent, and with Leverkusen now interested, the right-back is more than ready to sign for a club like Alonso’s side in what will likely be his final big move of his career.
