West Ham United are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen.
The Hammers have coveted the Mexico and former Manchester United and Real Madrid star all summer.
And it looks as though Slaven Bilic’s 18 month search for a top quality striker – something the Hammers have arguably struggled to find for a decade – is finally coming to an end, after confirmation that a deal is in place on the club’s official website.
Javier Hernandez
Most West Ham fans will remember Hernandez best for his efforts in a Manchester United shirt, where he endeared himself to Red Devils fans, many of whom wanted to see the club bring him back.
Chicharito, as he is affectionately known, has a fearsome goalscoring ratio of one every 1.4 league starts and is Mexico’s all-time leading goalscorer.
There are two sides to every transfer, though, and while there is excitement for Hammers fans, there is sadness at his impending departure in Germany.
Hernandez scored 39 goals in two season at Leverkusen and the club bid an emotional farewell to the striker in a video tribute posted on its official Twitter feed.
Bayer Leverkusen say they will miss Hernandez
“Let’s have a look back at some of our top moments with the Mexican Maestro!” the Bundesliga club posted on Twitter.
“We’ll miss you, Chicha!
“Thanks for everything.”
