With Chelsea ready to sell Michy Batshuayi, should Everton consider the striker if a deal for Besiktas’ Cenk Tosun fals through?

Everton are still hopeful of completing a deal to sign Cenk Tosun from Besiktas, but as the Guardian reports the move has hit a snag over the forward’s valuation.

The Toffees had thought a £25m fee for Tosun had been agreed after director of football Steve Walsh flew to Istanbul to negotiate the transfer, but his current club have since increased that by £2m.

The Merseysiders are set for a meeting with the Turkish club’s president, Fikret Orman, to try and sort this out and still hope to sign the 26-year-old on a four-and-a-half year contract.

However, with manager Sam Allardyce desperate for recruitment in attack, if the Tosun deal does fall through then should he take a closer look at Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi?

Batshuayi could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge with boss Antonio Conte admitting unhappy players – such as the striker and David Luiz, who want more game time ahead of the 2018 World Cup – can leave in the current January transfer window.

“I was a player, I will understand if someone is worried about the World Cup,” Conte was quoted by the Telegraph.

“I understand it’s very important to keep players very happy to stay here to work with us and I think this must be our priority. To keep the players happy to stay with us, to continue to work with us. At the same time, I was a player and I will understand if someone is thinking in this way (that they need to play more).

“I prefer to have players very happy to stay here than to have players that are unhappy because when you are unhappy you transfer this to the other players, to me, to my staff and I don’t like this. If we can avoid this, I’d like to avoid this situation.”

Batshuayi has started just seven first team matches this season for the Blues but has still managed to score seven goals in 19 appearances in all competitions.
