The German looks set to leave Manchester United after just one season at the club.

Bastian Schweinsteiger’s stint at Old Trafford wasn’t supposed to pan out this way.

Manchester United were recruiting a World Cup winner who had won everything at Bayern Munich before arriving last summer.

He would link up with his former manager in Louis van Gaal, the Dutchman stating how convincingly he controlled games, which brought high hopes.

However, the pair’s relationship would decline. Players looked up to the German, yet he never came close to fulfilling their expectations.

New manager Jose Mourinho could have helped rejuvenate the player but decided Schweinsteiger wasn’t worth it and wouldn’t feature in his plans.

Told to vacate the first team and train with the reserves, the 32-year-old hitting back wouldn’t be unjustified, though his manner throughout the sticky situation has been classy.

He provided an update on the case on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.
