Sebastien Bassong has suggested on BBC Radio 5 Live (8:45pm, March 13, 2023) why Yves Bissouma has not been able to make a massive impact at Tottenham Hotspur under Antonio Conte.
The former Tottenham defender has suggested that the way Conte plays his football has not allowed Bissouma to express his natural game.
The 26-year-old midfielder joined Tottenham from Premier League rivals Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window.
The Mali international was expected to hit the ground running at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
However, Bissouma struggled to play well before he suffered his injury which will keep him out for the rest of the season.
The Tottenham no. 38 has made eight starts and 12 substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.
The midfielder has made three substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League.
Bissouma has also played once in the Carabao Cup and once in the FA Cup for Spurs this campaign.
Sebastien Bassong on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma
Bassong said: “Bissouma is a good Premier League player who used to be amazing at Brighton.
“Coming at Spurs, I think the match with Antonio Conte’s style and lack of communication maybe, lack of understanding, have not enabled Bissouma to express himself.”

Staying positive
In our view, Yves Bissouma should stay positive about his time at Tottenham Hotspur.
It has been tough for the midfielder with injuries and adapting to Antonio Conte’s side of play, but we know that he is a very good player.
Perhaps next season will see the Malian star explode at Tottenham.
