Some Liverpool fans on social media have been reacting to the news that Morgan Boyes has been recalled from his loan spell at Fleetwood.

It was announced on Saturday afternoon that the youngster would be returning to Anfield, and it sparked a massive reaction on social media, with the club’s tweet announcing his return garnering over 250 replies.

Perhaps it’s something to do with nerves after Manchester United drew level on points with the Reds this week, but the majority of the replies seemed to be very concerned Liverpool fans worrying about this being a sign that they won’t sign a centre-back.

The Reds have of course been linked with a number of defenders, most notably Sven Botman over the past week, but fans are worried that Boyes’ return means that they won’t be in the market for a new defender.

Whether or not this does affect the Reds’ plans to sign a new defender remains to be seen, but it has to be said that it looks unlikely.

Boyes is a 19-year-old defender who has only managed to earn two appearances in League One this season, so the likelihood is that Liverpool aren’t recalling him to play first-team football.

One would imagine he’s more likely going to play in the U23s or move out on loan again, as he wasn’t getting much game time at Fleetwood.

Unfortunately, it seems as though a number of Liverpool fans on social media don’t see it that way, as there was a frenzied response of fans worrying about what this means for the Botman deal and the Reds’ wider plans of signing another centre-back.

Here’s what the Anfield faithful have been saying on social media…
