Joey Barton has been in the spotlight lately for all the wrong reasons, and in his new book he has made a few more shocking revelations.
Joey Barton has done many things that have landed him in hot water over the years, but in his new book he has decided to reveal a few more for good measure. As reported by Liverpool Echo, the midfielder spoke about a fight he had with ex-Everton defender Richard Dunne in Thailand.
The two came to blows following a pre-season game between Manchester City and Everton, as Barton recalls in his book entitled “No Nonsense”.
“When Dunney [Richard Dunne] had the bright idea of ordering a couple of bottles of wine, and then a couple more, the tenor of the night was set.
Barton then went on to state how the inclusion of an Everton fan saw the night take a dark turn.
He wrote, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo: “He [Everton fan] began to denigrate Robbie Fowler as a cokehead and a coward, because he wasn’t on the trip. Bob was injured, and I wasn’t going to put up with lazy, vindictive lies about him. I could feel the mist start to descend.”
A confrontation then ensued between Barton and the fan following his comments about Fowler.
“I went back to my pint and was soon confronted by the Honey Monster [Dunne], who was as buried in booze as I was. ‘F***ing get over there now and apologise!’ he screamed. I declined.
“Dunney grabbed me by the throat, and pushed me back against the wall. He was bigger than me and stronger than me so wrestling was out of the question. I turned feral, and sank my teeth into his fist as hard as I could.”
The fight escalated until the two were finally dragged away from each other. The encounter is now just a distant memory for both men, but Barton is once again at the forefront of attention as he is currently being investigated for a betting scandal.
