West Ham have sacked manager Slaven Bilic.

Joey Barton has told TalkSPORT that he believes West Ham United could do a lot worse than appointing former Hammers boss Harry Redknapp as manager.

West Ham reported on their official website that they had parted company with Slaven Bilic, after the Croat failed to replicate the successes of his first season in charge during 2015-16.

The Guardian claims former Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes will take over the club on an initial six-month contract, after a meeting was scheduled between Bilic and co-owner David Sullivan.

However, hot-head Barton believes the Hammers should consider Redknapp as manager, 16 years after the 70-year-old left the east Londoners in 2001 after a seven-year spell in charge.

“I think they could do a lot worse than Harry Redknapp, it wouldn’t be the worst appointment,” Barton said. “He’s one of their own, he’s a former player and former manager, and he’d definitely get a few of the players on-side.

“One of Harry’s big things is to get good players and put them together and let them get on with business. I don’t think he’d be someone who would go in and change the shape and make the training regime any different.

“Maybe they just need an arm round their shoulder and a bit of a cuddle.”

Redknapp is currently out of work after leaving Championship side Birmingham City earlier this season, despite only joining the club less than six months earlier in April.

Bilic was in the final year of his contract in east London, but with the club now in the relegation zone of the Premier League after just two wins in 11 outings, the Hammers hierarchy have decided to look for a new man to take them forward.
