Rangers midfielder Joey Barton is no stranger to controversy.
Rangers’ Joey Barton
Rangers midfielder Joey Barton is renowned for being forthright with his opinions, and in a recent interview with the Daily Mail, he made a series of bold claims.
The former QPR and Burnley man is currently serving a three-week suspension dished out to him yesterday by Gers boss Mark Warburton, following a training ground bust-up last week.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Barton discussed the current England football team situation, and shared his thoughts on past and present managers Roy Hodgson and Sam Allardyce:

“Sam Allardyce is England manager. Well, am I a better player than Sam? Well, yeah, of course. Do I believe, if Sam can get to be England manager then I can? Of course I do. What’s Sam got that I haven’t got? I look at Roy Hodgson in the England job and look at the way he handled it. Surely even you think you could have done a better job.”
The 34-year-old has done little to justify his rather inflated belief in his own ability since his arrival at Ibrox.
Rangers’ Joey Barton looks dejected
One wonders how good he actually could be if he spent more time concentrating on his football rather than making continued attempts to cause controversy with ridiculous claims.
He spoke further to the Daily Mail, naming three England players (past and present) who he believes he is superior to – Michael Carrick, Scott Parker and Phil Neville.
Whether Barton has much of a future at Rangers is debate, but one thing that would certainly help his cause would be to start letting his football do the talking.
