Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has admitted in the Peterborough Evening Telegraph that Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings has become a problem for his side.

Posh signed Cummings from Forest on loan at the start of the season and the striker made a very bright start at the ABAX Stadium.

Cummings scored six goals in his first five matches for Posh, but has hit the back of the net on just two occasions since.

And Peterborough are now trying to work with Forest to come to a resolution, which could allow the Scot to move elsewhere.

“Jason has become a problem,” Fry said. “MK Dons and Lincoln have shown an interest in taking him, but he doesn’t want to drop into League Two.

“There are also Scottish club chasing him, but Jason also doesn’t want to move back up there, even though he’s spending all of his time there at the moment.

“I am speaking to Forest to see if they can help shift him on as it’s in their interests as well. He has no future with us.”

Whether Martin O’Neill would be prepared to give Cummings more of a chance at Forest than Aitor Karanka was remains to be seen.

The 23-year-old has shown flashes of quality at Posh, but now appears to be fifth choice striker for Steve Evans’ side.

Cummings has fallen behind Ivan Toney, Matt Godden, Lee Tomlin and Matty Stevens in the race for places at Posh, and seemingly has little chance of breaking back into the starting line-up now.

If Cummings was to return to Forest he would have Lewis Grabban, Daryl Murphy and Karim Ansarifard to compete with for a first-team spot.
