Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos have been in sparkling form for Rangers this season, as Steven Gerrard has two high-quality attackers to choose from.

Barry Ferguson believes that Rangers are still ‘light’ in the forward areas as he is worried about the possibility that either Jermain Defoe or Alfredo Morelos suffer an injury.
Both players have been in outstanding form this season, and over the weekend, it was Defoe’s time to shine as he netted a hat-trick against Hamilton at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard has been lucky that he can choose from two top stars, who have delivered when they have been called upon by their manager.
Speaking to PLZ Soccer, former Gers midfielder Ferguson thinks that it’s very healthy that both Defoe and Morelos are fighting for that number one striker spot, but he thinks that Gerrard still needs those extra pair of legs in the forward areas.
“For me, two of them are on form,” Ferguson told PLZ Soccer. “They are fighting for that one place. They have got to be on top form and they got to be scoring goals. It’s good competition up there.
“I still think Rangers are light up there. I still think they could do with another forward player. If one of them does get injured then with the Europa League games as well, it’s a lot of football to be played.
“But two of them, top strikers. Jermain Defoe, his first finish against Hamilton was sheer class. And Morelos can only learn off a guy like that. That’s another reason why Gerrard brought him in.”

Defoe’s recent hat-trick will surely mean that he will start Rangers’ away clash against Hearts after the international break.
But that isn’t a bad thing for Morelos because he can still come off the bench and have an impact if need be.
Plus, towards the end of the month, Rangers travel to Portugal for a very tough Europa League clash against Porto, so having two in-form strikers is needed.
