Rangers have had a strong start to the season, both in the Scottish Premiership and in Europe.
Barry Ferguson has warned Rangers not to get ‘over-confident’ ahead of their Old Firm showdown against Celtic on September 1.
Whilst there are still a number of games in between that fixture, including European matches, Rangers have started the season in a strong fashion, whilst their neighbours have been knocked out of the Champions League.
Added with that, they needed extra-time to beat lower league side Dunfermline in the Scottish League Cup at the weekend, with many questioning Neil Lennon and Celtic’s performances.
Despite all that, Ferguson warned his former club that all of what happened before will go out of the window when the duo clash at Ibrox in a couple of weeks time.
“This is where you have got to be wary,” Ferguson told PLZ Soccer. “It’s still far too early for me. I know they [Celtic] are not playing at the levels people expect and I still think they are two or three short of what Neil Lennon wants them to be.
“But my only concern is the Rangers players and the Rangers fans being over-confident. Things are going well, teams playing decent, but you have to keep your feet on the ground. It’s simple as that.
“It’s just going to come around the corner, the Old firm, and anything can happen in them games. I don’t care. I have been involved in plenty to know that it’s not about the form you are in, it’s about how you approach that game. So, I would still be wary of Celtic, there’s no doubt about that.”
The last time Celtic and Rangers met at Ibrox, Gerrard’s side were victorious, as they will be hoping to produce more of the same next month.
The first Old Firm clash of the season, and the result of it, is going to have big bearings on how the Premiership season is going to unfold.
